BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The municipal government of Bauko in Mountain Province has reopened the town to tourists in order to revive the local economy.
Mayor Abraham Akilit said safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID are being implemented by the local government.
Visitors from the National Capital Region are required to present a negative RT-PCR or reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test result taken 72 hours before arrival at the border checkpoints.
Akilit said the town is experiencing a continuous decrease in COVID cases, prompting local and tourism officials to gradually open its doors to outsiders.
He said the town’s major economic driver is tourism, and its revival would help stakeholders recover from the effects of the pandemic.
Bauko is known for its waterfalls, trekking spots and rice terraces.
