MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police will secure universities and colleges that will resume face-to-face classes, PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said yesterday.

Carlos said they have started coordinating with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to establish lines of communication with school authorities in preparation for the resumption of face-to-face classes in selected universities and colleges across the country.

“We will deploy our people outside the premises of these schools once classes resume,” he said in a statement.

Carlos assured local government units  and health authorities of police assistance in implementing minimum public health standards in school premises to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

As more campuses will open physically, Carlos said more students are expected to attend classroom sessions.

He urged students and parents to remain vigilant against street crimes that are common in the vicinity of colleges and universities.

CHED is expected to make an announcement allowing higher educational institutions to conduct limited face-to-face classes.
