KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines – Floodwaters swept away 15 shanties lying along the banks of the Talutalunan River in Makilala, North Cotabato on Sunday.
The North Cotabato provincial disaster risk reduction and management council said emergency workers extended initial relief support to families displaced by the flood.
“The river swelled and carried away the houses,” Gov. Nancy Catamco told journalists yesterday after visiting areas traversed by the Talutalunan River.
The flood also destroyed a portion of the anti-erosion walls built along the banks to prevent water from overflowing to nearby areas.
