Non-working holiday in La Trinidad on March 19

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines — March 19 is a special non-working holiday in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Malacañang declared the holiday under Proclamation 1112 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of President Duterte, to allow residents to celebrate the Strawberry Festival.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the municipality of La Trinidad be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” the proclamation read.

The festival, which is celebrated during the entire month of March, started in 1981 in a bid to promote La Trinidad as the strawberry capital of the Philippines.

Malacañang stressed that minimum health standards should be observed during activities to mark the festival.
