MANILA, Philippines — A distraught man climbed a water tank in Quezon City yesterday after learning that his girlfriend was planning to go back to her home province.
Cedric Sampaga, a street sweeper, was rescued by emergency responders atop the structure in Barangay Socorro at past 1 p.m.
Witnesses said Sampaga climbed the tower before 12 noon, prompting barangay officials to call for help.
Barangay captain Teofilo Santos said Sampaga became depressed upon learning that his girlfriend was planning to return to the province.
The woman and her child are under the care of barangay officials after they lost their house in a recent fire.
Sampaga was taken to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center following the incident.
