Ilocos Sur policewoman relieved over teen’s slay

MANILA, Philippines — The policewoman who did not provide an escort to a 15-year-old girl who was shot dead after filing a complaint against two police officers in Ilocos Sur has been relieved from her post.

S/Sgt. Merly Joy Pascua of the Cabugao police station’s women and children protection desk was relieved for denying the request of the victim for a security escort, Ilocos Sur Gov. Ryan Luis Singson said in an interview with “The Chiefs” on One News/TV 5.

S/Sgts. Marawi Torda and Randy Ramos of the San Juan police, who were charged with acts of lasciviousness and rape by the fatality and her cousin, respectively, were arrested.

Singson said the police chiefs of Cabugao and San Juan were also relieved from their posts under the doctrine of command responsibility.

He said he requested the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a parallel probe.
