Makati hikes budget for SPED, ALS

MAKATI, Philippines —  The city government of Makati has increased the budget for its special education (SPED) and alternative learning system (ALS) programs for this year.

In a statement issued yesterday, the city government said its “Speed for SPED” work immersion program for differently abled learners aged 18 and above was increased from P5 million last year to P8.5 million ths year or by 71 percent.

The ALS budget was increased from P7.6 million in 2019 to P10.1 million this year.

Mayor Abby Binay “pushed for bigger investments in programs for the differently-abled and students from poor families… in line with her thrust of inclusivity,” the city government said.

It has allocated P3.3 billion for education programs in the city this year.
