2 motorcycle riders die in road crashes
MANILA, Philippines — Two motorcycle riders died yesterday in separate road accidents in eastern Metro Manila, police said.
Rhensy Rentosa, 31, was on a motorcycle along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong when he collided with a Nissan Terra sport utility van (SUV) at around 6 a.m.
Brig. Gen. Johnson Almazan, director of the Eastern Police District, said Rentosa died at the scene from massive head injuries.
The victim was thrown off the motorcycle due to the impact.
The driver of the SUV, Mark Oliver Mateo, 33, was taken into police custody.
In Pasig City, Elpido Rogelio Jr., 32, died after he figured in an accident in Barangay Sta. Lucia.
Rogelio was on a motorcycle along East Bank Road when a Mitsubishi Canter truck veered on the opposite lane and collided with him.
Truck driver Jonathan Andesa, 33, told probers that he lost control of the steering wheel after the brakes allegedly malfunctioned.
Rescuers brought Rogelio to the Pasig City General Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Andesa was injured in the accident.
Police said they would file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property against Mateo and Andesa.
