Pa disputes DNA report on Kulot’s body

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The father of Reynaldo “Kulot” de Guzman decried yesterday the DNA report conducted by police on his son to make it appear that the body fished out of a river in Nueva Ecija two years ago was not that of the victim.

Kulot’s father, Eduardo Gabriel, testified before the Navotas Regional Trial Court that 10 Caloocan policemen went to their house in Cainta, Rizal on Sept. 7, 2017 to get saliva samples from him and his wife.

Gabriel said the policemen obtained the saliva samples without the presence of a lawyer.

He said he identified the body of Kulot based on his facial features, which were not yet decaying at the time.

He slammed the police for making it appear that the body was not that of Kulot. The police even wanted to take the remains from the wake, which they refused, Garbriel added.

Prosecutors of the Department of Justice invalidated the police report.

State prosecutor Xerxes Garcia slammed the attempt of the defense panel in bringing up the DNA results when the report has not yet been admitted as evidence in court.

Garcia added that the DNA results were meant to muddle the investigation.
