MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday warned Tutuban shopping center and Isetann mall of closure within 72 hours if they continue to sell stolen cell phones and gadgets.

Moreno issued the warning after police raided the Isetann mall over the weekend amid complaints of robbery and snatching victims that stolen mobile phones were being sold in the mall’s kiosks.

Six persons were arrested and charged for violating Presidential Decree 1612 or the anti-fencing law.

Police said they confiscated more than 300 cell phones and dummy phones during the raid.

Personnel of the city business and licensing office were inspecting the mall when a 14-year-old boy arrived to sell a stolen cell phone.

The teenager admitted that the phone was snatched by a man from a student.

The boy said the snatcher instructed him to sell it to a stall in Isetann mall.

Authorities said they have been receiving information that stall owners were in cahoots with robbers and snatchers selling stolen items.

The boy was turned over to the local social welfare department.
