Bad weather prompts Palace to suspend classes, gov’t work in Metro Manila
MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang announced the suspension of classes and work in government offices in Metro Manila on Friday afternoon due to the continuing inclement weather.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued Memorandum Circular 64, declaring that work in government agencies and classes in both public and private schools at all levels in the metro would be suspended beginning 3 p.m. on Friday.
“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness or response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” the memorandum read.
The suspension of work for private companies, offices and school is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
Typhoon Hanna (Lekima) exited the Philippine area of responsibility shortly after midnight but monsoon rains will persist over most parts of the country.
State weather bureau Pagasa said residents of Metro Manila will experience light to moderate with intermittent heavy monsoon rains.
Classes have already been suspended in some parts of Metro Manila.
