San Juanico lights and sound project to start next month

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The installation of lights and sound at the San Juanico bridge, which connects Samar and Leyte, is expected to start next month, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).

“We are expecting  the contractor to start the project now that the election ban was lifted, hopefully by July, so by December we can enjoy the  lights and sounds at San Juanico bridge,” DOT regional head Karen Tiopes said.

The Tourism Infrastrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority approved the allocation of P80 million for the project.

Tiopes said the lighting of the bridge is seen to boost the economy of Samar and Leyte due to business and employment opportunities to be created with the expected influx of tourists.
