Holiday pay awaits workers
MANILA, Philippines — Workers nationwide can enjoy a holiday break or hefty pay this week.
In an advisory issued yesterday, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said workers who will opt to work on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are entitled to double pay.
“Workers will receive double pay for the first eight hours and an additional 30 percent of hourly rate for overtime work,” the DOLE said.
Workers whose rest day falls on a holiday will get 230 percent for the first eight hours of work.
On top of the 230 percent, DOLE said workers would also get an additional 30 percent for work done in excess of eight hours.
Those who would choose not to work are entitled to get their regular daily pay.
Since Black Saturday is a non-working holiday, workers who will report for work will receive an additional 30 percent of their daily rate.
Employees who are required to work on their rest day will be paid 150 percent of daily rate for the first eight hours and another 30 percent for overtime work.
The DOLE said the “no work, no pay” policy applies unless there is a company rule or collective bargaining agreement granting payment during holiday.
The agency issued the advisory to guide employers and workers on the salary scheme for the Holy Week.
