MMDA, Sesame Street team up to teach kids road safety, environmental care

MANILA, Philippines—The Metro Manila Development Authority and the non-profit organization behind well-loved educational American television series Sesame Street on Monday launched their children’s safety program in Manila.

MMDA and Sesame Street Workshop forged their three-year partnership to help educate children discipline and road safety in a fun manner citing the prevalence of accidents and traffic.

The program also seeks to inform kids about the agencies’ responsibility and functions including public safety, road safety, waste management and environmental care.

The partnership is also in line with Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary.

MMDA Chair Danny Lim and Sesame Workshop Asia Pacific Director Will DePippo were present during the signing of the memorandum of agreement between the two agencies.

The two organizations also unveiled a mural program at the Children’s Road Safety Park in Malate, Manila.  

Sesame Street characters Elmo and Cookie Monster were present during the two events as they were among the program’s ambassadors.

In 2012, Asian Development Bank also tapped Sesame Street’s Elmo and Grover for their road safety campaign in Metro Manila.
