Girl, 12, dies of dengue in Davao sports meet

 DAVAO CITY  , Philippines  —  A 12-year-old volleyball player participating in the Davao Regional Athletic Association in this city died of dengue and complications due to pneumonia on Wednesday.

Authorities said Hadia Eronico of the Davao Oriental girls volleyball team-elementary division was taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center after she coughed blood and experienced nausea and vomiting.

Doctors said Eronico died while being treated in the hospital at around 7:45 p.m.

The victim was with the group of athletes from Davao Oriental billeted at the Imelda Elementary School in Barangay Mintal, Tugbok district for the weeklong regional sports meet that started on Sunday.
