MANILA, Philippines — The review of the automated election system’s source code for the May 2019 elections is likely to be extended.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesman James Jimenez said there is a recommendation to extend the review period for the source code beyond January.

“For now, we have until Jan. 31 (to review the source code) at the De La Salle University,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez said the extension will allow interested groups to undertake the review further.

The Comelec opened to interested parties the chance to review the source code last October.

So far, 66 individuals representing 19 separate entities are participating in the local source code review.

Reviewers have yet to raise significant findings on the source code.

The Comelec is mandated under Republic Act 9369 to “promptly make the source code available and open to any interested party or group, which may conduct their own review.”
