SAN FERNANDO, La Union, Philippines — La Union Rep. Sandra Eriguel, whose husband former lawmaker Franny Eriguel was killed in an attack four months ago, is seeking reelection in next year’s midterm polls.
Eriguel’s certificate of candidacy (COC) was filed by her staff at the Commission on Elections’ provincial office on Friday.
Her chief of staff, lawyer Cherry Ontalan, filed the COC on her behalf as she and her family are still facing threats following her husband’s murder.
Eriguel, who was elected representative of La Union’s second district in 2016, is seeking a second term under PDP-Laban.
Her daughter Stefanie is also seeking reelection for a second term as mayor of Agoo.
Authorities have yet to solve the murder of the late Eriguel, who was shot as he was addressing candidates for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Agoo on May 12.
Sandra said her husband’s murder was politically motivated.
