MANILA, Philippines — Pateros Vice Mayor Gerald German was arrested yesterday morning after he allegedly beat up his wife Wednesday night shortly after an argument.
German’s wife of nearly 10 years, Marry Antonnette, filed a complaint against him after she allegedly sustained “bruises on her face and scratches on her arms” shortly after their argument, Southern Police District director Senior Superintendent Eliseo Cruz said.
The vice mayor was detained at the Pateros police station Wednesday night for allegedly violating Republic Act 9262, the law penalizing violence against women and their children.
The Pateros police said German was temporarily freed yesterday morning.
Aside from Wednesday’s incident, the Pateros police said Marry Antonnette accused her husband of physically abusing her on several occasions, particularly on Aug. 30 and July 8, this year.
A source told The STAR the argument allegedly happened after Marry Antonnette became angry after hearing German talking to a woman on the phone during his birthday celebration.
