Cop gunned down in Makati

MANILA, Philippines — A Marikina policeman was shot dead by an unidentified assailant shortly after attending the hearing of his grave misconduct case at the National Police Commission (Napolcom) building in Makati yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Teejay Valdez, assigned with the Police Community Precinct 4, died at the scene from three gunshots to the body.

National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar ordered the creation of Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Valdez to solve the killing.

“The SITG should gather closed-circuit television footage in the area for the possible identification of the suspect,” Eleazar said. “We should get as many witnesses to get a good discription of the gunman.”

Investigation showed that Valdez had just emerged from the Napolcom building and walking toward his vehicle at the parking lot when the assailant fired at him around 3 p.m.

Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario said the administrative case against Valdez stemmed from a shooting incident when he was assigned with the Quezon City Police District. – Robertzon Ramirez
