MANILA, Philippines — Motorists were inconvenienced as some areas in Metro Manila experienced flooding yesterday morning due to heavy rains brought about by Tropical Depression “Domeng,” an official said yesterday.

Celine Pialago, spokesperson of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), said at least five major roads were not passable to motorists.

In MMDA’s official Twitter account @MMDA, the flooded areas were Bayani Road; East Service Road from Gate 3 to TESDA; G. Araneta-Talayan; Andrews Avenue to Almazorst in Barangay 185; and EDSA-Quezon Avenue.

The flood caused the flow of traffic to slow down as motorists were forced to stop and look for alternative routes, Pialago said.

As rainy season approaches, she said they are now focusing on addressing and monitoring “flood-prone” areas in the metropolis, especially the underpasses along EDSA.

Pialago said the MMDA has been preparing for the rainy season through intensified road clearing operations and the estero blitz or canal cleanups.

She also assured the public that the metropolis’ flood pumping stations are functional.
