Satisfaction with Marcos government improves – poll

MANILA, Philippines — Public satisfaction with the Marcos administration’s handling of select national issues has improved in the second quarter, a Pulse Asia survey showed.
Results of the June 26 to 30 survey released yesterday revealed that the government’s approval ratings improved in all 14 issues listed compared to a similar survey in March.
Strong disapproval of the government’s performance in five key issues remained like in previous polls.
These include controlling inflation (66 percent disapprove, 18 percent approve), reducing poverty (54 percent disapprove, 21 percent approve), fighting graft and corruption (50 percent disapprove, 28 percent approve), increasing wages (48 percent disapprove, 33 percent approve) and fighting criminality (40 percent disapprove, 33 percent approve).
In March, only three percent approved of the government’s performance in controlling inflation, marking a 15-point increase.
Double-digit growth was also seen in terms of addressing hunger (20 percent to 33 percent), fighting graft and corruption (13 percent to 28 percent) and increasing workers’ pay (16 percent to 33 percent).
The Marcos administration obtained majority approval ratings in three issues: protecting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (62 percent approve, 19 percent disapprove), responding to the needs of areas affected by calamities, (63 percent approve, 21 percent disapprove) and providing assistance to farmers (53 percent approve, 26 percent disapprove).
The government had higher approval than disapproval ratings in six issues: defending the Philippine territory’s integrity (48 percent approve, 26 percent disapprove), stopping the destruction and abuse of environment (44 percent approve, 27 percent disapprove), equal enforcement of the law (42 percent approve, 33 percent disapprove), promoting peace (42 percent approve, 33 percent disapprove), creating more jobs (42 percent approve, 33 percent disapprove) and fighting criminality (39 percent approve, 36 percent disapprove).
