MRT-7 tunnel construction to cause heavy traffic

“We will be closing lanes only, not roads, but it will cause traffic because the capacity of the road will be reduced,” Neomie Recio, director of the Traffic Engineering Center of the MMDA, said.

MANILA, Philippines — Motorists should brace for traffic gridlocks from North Avenue to Tandang Sora Avenue in Quezon City due to the construction of the tunnel for the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

“We will be closing lanes only, not roads, but it will cause traffic because the capacity of the road will be reduced,” Neomie Recio, director of the Traffic Engineering Center of the MMDA, said.

She added that the contractor will also start the construction of the MRT-7’s Tandang Sora station in the first week of May.

Among the affected roads are North Avenue, Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue.

Recio said the construction will be done ’round the clock but the MMDA will deploy enough traffic enforcers to guide motorists.
