ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The  provincial government of Zamboanga Sibugay received 200 wheelchairs from the Department of Health (DOH) over the weekend.

The turnover of the P600,000 worth of wheelchairs was held during the celebration of the province’s 17th founding anniversary.

Gov. Wilter Yap Palma said the wheelchairs would be distributed to persons with disability (PWD) in 16 municipalities.

Each municipality will receive 10 wheelchairs.

The remaining 40 units will be turned over to the provincial health office for its program for PWDs.

“This is a big help to my municipality,” Olutanga Mayor Arthur Ruste said as he helped his staff members load the wheelchairs into a government vehicle.

Ruste said a brand new wheelchair costs P6,000 when bought from private establishments.

He said his municipality was able to save money by buying the equipment from the DOH.
