LTFRB 10 ready for transport picket

Starting this year, the LTFRB in Region 10 will inspect jeepneys for roadworthiness. Those that do not pass the test will be impounded. Most of the jeepneys in Cagayan de Oro are more than 30 years old.     Gerry Lee Gorit

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY , Philippines  —  The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Region 10 is ready for a transport group picket on Jan. 24.

Although the local chapter of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide assured LTFRB 10 director Aminoden Guro that PISTON is merely holding a picket, Guro is not taking chances.

Guro said LTFRB will have buses on standby  to pick up stranded passengers should the picket escalate into a full-blown strike.

He warned transport operators that they would be fined P5,000 for abandonment of service if they do not ferry commuters on Wednesday.

The LTFRB is ready to implement the public utility vehicles modernization program, phasing out jeepneys that do not pass roadworthiness tests in Region 10.
