Driver of ‘killer’ Hummer faces raps
MANILA, Philippines - A string of criminal cases were filed yesterday against the supposed driver of a Hummer that killed two people in a hit-and-run accident in Quezon City on Sunday.
Alvin San Pablo, 32, was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide, damage to property, abandonment under the Revised Penal Code and violating Republic Act 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code before the city prosecutor’s office.
San Pablo, who turned himself in to police on Tuesday, claimed that he was the driver of the black Hummer that hit and dragged a motorcycle along V. Luna Road in Barangay Pinyahan, killing Lowell Gonzalgo, 26, and Felix Marvin Bose, 25.
Authorities recovered the Hummer on Tuesday night at the house of San Pablo’s friend in Sariaya, Quezon, according to Quezon City District Traffic Enforcement Unit head Chief Superintendent Cipriano Galanida.
Closed-circuit television footage showed the Hummer speeding away after the accident, leaving behind the victims and the car’s license plate that was detached due to the collision.
San Pablo admitted that he fell asleep at the wheel as he drove from Calamba, Laguna to his home in Quezon City.
Eric Santos, who was initially identified by police as the owner of the Hummer, said the car was borrowed by his colleague in a networking business Armelo Daleon, who in turn lent the vehicle to San Pablo.
