13 hurt as bus hits van, motorbikes

MANILA, Philippines - Thirteen persons were injured when a passenger bus hit a UV Express van and several motorcycles along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Sunday night.

Police said the brakes failed on a Mayami bus and it hit the van, which was stopped at a traffic light, at around 8:40 p.m., leaving six passengers hurt.

The bus, driven by David Nahibuan, also plowed through motorcycles, injuring at least seven more people.

Nahibuan was turned over to Traffic Sector 5 of the Quezon City Police District for proper disposition while the victims were rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital and East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

The victims were identified by police as Jezza Perdigones, 25; Shalom Grace Pascual, 23; Veronica Veron Concepcion, 30; Ma. Floryzhel Gabay, 21; Marcelina Qunio, 68; Herminigildo Banal, 49; Mark Joseph Quiao, 25; Jirah Javier, 23; Jebes dela Pena, 55; Danilo Bingco, 18; Andres Gutierrez, 37; and Eduardo Magdaraog, 47.

A seven-year-old girl was also injured in the collision.
