LGUs to undergo climate change training

Delon Porcalla - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Another group of local government units (LGUs) most vulnerable to disasters due to climate change will undergo training in adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk reduction and management.

The Climate Change Commission (CCC) will hold the Communities for Resilience (CORE) Convergence Forum today and tomorrow in Cagayan de Oro City to be participated in by LGUs around the Buayan-Malungon, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Tagoloan river basins.

The river basins were among those considered high-risk and identified as pilot areas and models for the convergence of climate change adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk reduction and management programs of the government.

The forum is the second to be conducted by the CCC.  The first was held in Davao City in March and attended by representatives of 18 LGUs.

“The convergence forum’s main strategy is the development of capacities of key national and local stakeholders… who bear the brunt of the impacts of climate change and are expected to be at the forefront of the response actions,” Secretary Emmanuel de Guzman, CCC vice chairman, said.

A forum will also be held for LGUs in the Pasig-Laguna, Pampanga, Agno, Abra, Cagayan, Agusan, Mindanao, Ilog-Hilabangan, Agus, Bicol, Panay, Jalaur and Apayao-Abulug river basins.
