COTABATO CITY, Philippines - Lawmen on Thursday arrested a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and his wife in a residential area here while in the act of selling drugs to plainclothes agents.
Usman Karun Daud, 49, from whom government operatives had confiscated an MILF identification card indicating he is a member of the group, and wife Bainan, 49, are now both detained, awaiting prosecution.
The local police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) learned of their peddling of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) from their neighbors in Barangay Mother Poblacion here.
The couple turned in shabu and drug sniffing paraphernalia to the raiding team that frisked and cuffed them.
They were arrested just hours after policemen guarding a roadside checkpoint in Kidapawan City nabbed Jan-Jan Jabla, 27, for possession of shabu.
Jabla was supposedly intercepted and asked to pullover only for an inspection of his motorcycle registration, but the policemen who flagged him down found several sachets of shabu in his wallet while taking out his driver’s license.
Jabla was immediately detained at the Kidapawan City police detention facility pending the filing of a criminal case against him.
