La Union councilor nabbed for guns, ammunition

CABA, La Union, Philippines – A municipal councilor here was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition following a raid on his house yesterday.

Joseph Maglaya yielded a 9 mm pistol and bullets for various guns, said Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director.

Dumangeng said Maglaya is being held at the Caba police station. The suspect faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms Law.

On Thursday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized three high-powered firearms and ammunition from a businessman In Mobo, Masbate.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Tekjada, CIDG-Bicol director, said the raid on the house of Randy Motita was based on a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 15 Judge Alben Rabe.
