NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Barangay officials on Tuesday fished off from a river the cadavers of two girls last seen swimming with friends Monday in Arakan town in North Cotabato.
The lifeless bodies of the two girls, aged 13 and 14, were first found early Tuesday by farmers in a shallow portion of the Tinanan River in Barangay Santo Niño in Arakan, a hinterland town in the 3rd district of North Cotabato.
Senior Superintendent Bernard Tayong, spokesman of the North Cotabato provincial police, said the remains of the two girls had been turned over to their parents.
“The children went to the river for a swim. They both got drowned unfortunately,” Tayong said.
Tayong said investigators will wind up their investigation on the incident on Wednesday.
“We have asked the classmates of the victims to help shed light on the incident,” he said.
