BALANGA CITY, Philippines – A 40-year-old worker drowned as he was swimming in Morong town in Bataan on Sunday.
Nestor Mullasgo of Malolos, Bulacan and his brother, Larry, were swimming at a shallow portion of a beach in Barangay Poblacion when the currents swept them away, according to Bataan police information officer Inspector Jennifer Cruz.
The Mullasgos tried to swim back to shore when huge waves hit them.
Larry managed to make it to the shore and called for help, but the waves made it difficult for the lifeguards to reach Nestor.
The victim was found unconscious and was rushed to Morong municipal health center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
