MMDA to train PNP on Edsa traffic management

Starting September 7, Monday, the Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group will takeover the traffic management along Edsa. 

MANILA, Philippines - In preparation of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group's (PNP-HPG) take over of of Edsa, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will train policemen on basic traffic management. 

MMDA personnel will train traffic cops on Basic Traffic Management which includes traffic direction, control, and supervision, traffic law enforcement, basics of road safety, traffic accident investigation, road incident management, traffic engineering, and administrative rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino on Wednesday met with Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras to fine-tune operational details of President Benigno Aquino III's recent directive on traffic management along Edsa.

Tolentino said the purpose of the meeting is to finalize implementing guidelines of the impending takeover of the PNP-HPG on traffic management along EDSA on September 7, with the support of MMDA, Land Transportation Office, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

On Tuesday, President Aquino tasked PNP-HPG to take the lead in traffic law enforcement along Edsa's 23.8-kilometer stretch and prioritize the clearing of identified six choke points -- Balintawak, Cubao, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Guadalupe and Taft Avenue.
