LTFRB grounds 2 buses over reckless driving in QC

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a 30-day suspension order to operations of two units of Philippians Bus Lines Inc. for reckless driving along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

After carefully evaluating details of the complaint filed by broadcaster Gerry Baja, the LTFRB found the two buses driven by Ernesto Alfon Jr., and Joel Sarrag, were recklessly speeding along the major thoroughfare, endangering the lives of passengers and motorists.

In the complaint filed by Baja, the two buses were 'swerving from lane to lane and blowing their horns at other vehicles' on April 21, 2015 at around 4:45 a.m. along Commonwealth Avenue.

"Ilang ulit na natin pinaaalalahan ang mga bus operators na pagsabihan ang kanilang mga drivers na huwag maging reckless sa pagmamaneho upang di masangkot sa aksidente or else hindi magdadawalang-isip ang Board na i-revoke or cancel their permit to operate," LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said.

Aside from the suspension order, the Board also issued a cease and desist order, requiring the bus company to immediately surrender the yellow plates of the two buses to agency's legal division.

The Board also ordered the bus firm to pay a penalty of P10,000 for employing reckless driver and recommended to the Land Transportation Office to suspend the driver’s license of the two drivers for three months.

The drivers also have to undergo the seminar or conducted by the bus company with proof of compliance submitted to the Board within the suspension period.
