CAR sets new wage rate for domestic helpers

MANILA, Philippines - Domestic helpers in the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) are getting a salary hike, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced yesterday.

DOLE said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has approved a P500 increase in the monthly minimum wage of domestic helpers in the region.

With the wage order that will take effect on Aug. 10, the monthly minimum salary of domestic workers in cities and first class municipalities in the region is now pegged at P2,500 and P2,000 in other municipalities.

The provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province comprise CAR.

DOLE said the CAR wage board was the first to issue an order granting pay hike for domestic helpers.

According to the RTWPB-CAR, all domestic workers, including those on a live-out arrangement are covered by the wage order. – With Artemio Dumlao
