PNP: Murders, homicides in Metro Manila down by 32%

Police claim that the number of crimes in Metro Manila has gone down due to its pro-active approach in crime prevention.

MANILA, Philippines - Murder and homicide cases in Metro Manila have declined during the second week of March, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday.

The PNP reported that an average 32-percent decline in murder and homicide cases in all the five police districts of National Capital Region Police Office during the past seven-day period compared to other crimes.

A PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management report showed that 23 incidents in Metro Manila were recorded from March 16 to March 22 as compared with the 34 incidents during the previous week (March 9 to March 15).

With the continuous operation against criminals, the Eastern Police District recorded the highest decrease in these crimes from six incidents in the previous week down to only one  incident in Marikina City the past week.

EPD is followed by Quezon City Police District (QCPD) with a total of four  incidents on the past week contrary to the six incidents last March 9 to 15. QCPD  recorded two incidents in Talipapa, one in Novaliches and one in Batasan Hills.

Manila Police Disrict also recorded the least of these crimes with a total of four incidents in the past week contrary to six incidents from March 9 to March 15.

"This is the result of the effective and efficient implementation of increased checkpoints, mobile and beat and foot patrols, and intensified serving of arrest warrants, to include the deployment of police officers in densely populated areas including malls, train stations and terminals especially this Holy Week," PNP officer in charge Leonardo Espina said.

The PNP also reminded the public to be careful on posting travel itinerary and photos on social media that may entice criminals thinking that the houses are easier to rob.
