LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines – It is a non-working holiday here on March 18.
The holiday was declared in Executive Order 2 series of 2015 issued by acting Mayor Romeo Salda on Feb. 26 to give residents an opportunity to celebrate the Strawberry Festival.
The month-long celebration, which started on March 2, aims to showcase strawberry as La Trinidad’s One-Town-One-Product, foster good relations among its people and tourists, and promote camaraderie and goodwill in the community.
A strawberry shortcake, which bakers here made on March 20, 2004, made it to the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest fruit shortcake.
