CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union, Philippines – Two village chiefs were gunned down in separate incidents in La Union and Nueva Ecija on Tuesday.
Motorcycle-riding men fired at Santiago Nidoy, 42, as he was inspecting an infrastructure project in Barangay Inabaan Sur, Rosario, La Union around 5 p.m., said Chief Inspector Orly Pagaduan, Rosario police chief.
Nidoy suffered four gunshot wounds in the head and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.
In Barangay Dampulan in Jaen town, unidentified assailants gunned down Herminigildo Catacutan, 55, in front of the barangay hall at 7:20 a.m.
Catacutan was talking to a friend when the suspect in a sport utility vehicle (AAQ-8603) peppered him with bullets, said Chief Inspector Alexander Aurelio, Jaen police chief.
