MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Five men armed with high-powered firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, killed one person and injured nine others in a pre-dawn shooting in Makati City on Friday.
The Southern Police District identified the fatality as Jesus Garcia, 22, who was declared dead on arrival at the Makati Medical Center.
Those injured – who were also rushed to the MMC – were later identified by police as Michael Bagang, Jay Sapanta, Christoper Yvan, Jad Jerome Wong, Mark Jospeh Canda, Arnel Manalangan, Juan Carlos Zamorra, Oliver Agbayani, and Chris Ivan Paulino.
Case Investigator Nilo Sadsad of Makati Police Criminal Investigation Division said the victims were drinking beer along Tylo Street at about 12:45 a.m. when five men aboard a silver Toyota Innova (without license plates) opened fire at them, hitting Garcia in his right-upper torso.
The suspects immediately fled the scene aboard the van.
Police said empty shells from an M16 rifle, a 9mm caliber pistol, and an AK-47 rifle were recovered at the scene.
Sadsad said a feud between the two groups could have triggered the shooting.
