NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Burglars took advantage of the long holidays to rob the municipal treasurer’s office in Kabacan, North Cotabato of some P600,000 worth of cash and checks, police said Monday.
Chief Inspector Ernor Mergarejo, chief of the Kabacan town police, said employees of the local government unit (LGU) learned of the robbery when they opened the different offices inside the municipal hall shortly before 8 a.m. Monday, following the holidays.
Magarejo said an LGU employee named Ressa Galay, 36, was the first to discover that burglars broke in and took with them cash, checks and other personal valuables of several employees of the municipal treasurer’s office.
Investigators are certain the heist was pulled off at one time from between December 25 to Jan. 4, 2015.
Kabacan Mayor Herlo Guzman, chair of the municipal peace and order council, has ordered an extensive probe on the incident.
