Kalibo airport resumes operations

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines - The Kalibo International Airport (KIA) has resumed normal operations after briefly being closed when an AirAsia Airbus overshot the runway Tuesday afternoon.

Airport personnel managed to tow the passenger aircraft and bring it to the tarmac, reports said.

It took several hours before the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in Kalibo allowed KIA personnel to resume operations, letting both domestic and international flights to land and take off from the airport.

The 153 passengers and six crew of the AirAsia Airbus A320-216 (RP-C8972), which overshot the runway 23, safely exited the plane via escape slides.

The plane reportedly overshot the runway due to the strong winds and torrential rains brought by tropical storm Seniang.
