MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday and is expected to dump rains in many parts of the country until Friday, the state weather bureau said.
Jori Loiz, senior weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the LPA would bring light to moderate rains over the eastern section of the Visayas and Mindanao within the next 24 hours.
“It LPA is expected to cross between Caraga and Eastern Visayas within the next 24 hours,” Loiz said.
He said moderate to heavy rains are expected over Surigao, Agusan, Dinagat, Leyte, Samar, Bohol, Cebu, Negros, Iloilo, Aklan and Northern Palawan in the next few days.
Loiz said the LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.
He said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
As of 4 a.m. yesterday, the LPA was spotted at 880 kilometers east of Mindanao.
Aside from the LPA, no other weather disturbance was spotted within the Philippine area of responsibility as of yesterday afternoon, Loiz said.
PAGASA said moderate to rough seas would continue to prevail over Northern Luzon.
