CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines –– Two suspected robbers on a motorcycle were killed in an encounter with police officers in Imus City, Cavite before dawn yesterday.
Superintendent Redrico Maranan, city police chief, said they have yet to identify the suspects, whom he described as between 30 to 35 years old and of medium build.
Maranan said two caliber .38 pistols were recovered from the suspects.
He said his men were verifying reports that the suspects were involved in three robberies in Imus.
Maranan said the suspects were identified by their victims as among a group of men who robbed them last week. He said the motorcycle used by the robbers was reportedly stolen in Imus last September.
Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, Cavite police director, said the suspects tried to evade a group of police officers who were manning a checkpoint in Barangay Pasong Buaya 1 at around 3:20 a.m.
Esquivel said the police officers pursued the suspects, who reportedly shot at them, triggering a 20-minute firefight.
