2 alleged drug leaders slain in Laguna raids
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Two alleged leaders of a drug ring were killed while 21 others were arrested when police officers raided 10 suspected shabu dens in Biñan City Wednesday.
Mario Garfin and Rodelio Evangelista, allegedly leaders of the so-called Pogi drug group, died at the scene, said Superintendent Noel Aliño, city police chief.
The gang was reportedly behind the operations of 10 shabu dens located along a railroad in Barangay Canlalay.
Aliño said drug users, distributors and students frequented the area either for pot sessions or drug transactions.
He said among those arrested were three women and suspects aged 17 to 55 years old, with pending drug charges.
Laguna police director Senior Superintendent Florendo Saligao said Garfin and Evangelista fired at the police officers, triggering a shootout.
The raiding team recovered a sub-machine gun, an improvised shotgun and several bullets from the slain suspects.
