KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines - Six people were badly hurt when a pick-up truck rammed a waiting shed along a stretch of a national highway in Barangay Mateo in Kidapawan City over the weekend, radio reports said Monday.
Four of the victims were waiting for passenger vehicles under the shed, made of concrete with metal roof, which the ill-fated vehicle hit, causing damage.
Local officials said the vehicle is owned by an incumbent congressional representative, who immediately promised to pay for the hospitalization of the victims and the repair of the damaged waiting shed.
The driver of the pick-up truck and a passenger were also injured in the accident.
A witness, Rickson Ajero, broadcast technician of the Catholic station dxND here, told reporters the speeding pick-up truck first wiggled uncontrollably before it ploughed through the roadside structure.
Responding barangay officials immediately rushed the injured bystanders, the driver and the passenger of the pick-up truck to a hospital for medication.
