9 workers injured in stabbing spree

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Nine farm workers were injured in a stabbing spree in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Wednesday night, police said yesterday.

Kabankalan City police Chief Superintendent Salvador Dagoon Jr. said Marcial Lopez, a resident of Barangay Bulwagan in Valderama town in Antique, stabbed the eight victims, including a minor, with a bolo while they were sleeping in their quarters at Hacienda Biaren in Barangay Linao.

Police identified the victims as Marlon Mariano, 16; John Kenneth Tumpong, 19; Jonjie Bagoso, 60; Egmedio Alejo, 58; Richard Sanchez, 42; Marvin Mariano, 19; Michael Benigno, 19; and Gary Dava, 25; all from Antique province.
