ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) kicked off on Wednesday the 100-day countdown for scouting activities for the Scouting Centennial Jamboree in Zamboanga City.
Arthur Grino, BSP executive director for this city, said the 100 days countdown activities is in preparation for the Scouting Centennial Jamboree that will be hosted in the city on November 15, expected to be attended by scout members from across the country.
“We take pride in Zamboanga City for hosting the centennial jamboree,” Grino said at the countdown's kickof at the Paseo del Mar.
Grino said it was in this city on Nov, 15, 1914 where 26 members, all young Filipino-Muslim boys, started the scouting formation Lorilard Spencer Troops of Zamboanga in the Philippines.
The local Boy Scout got its name name after the son of American charity worker Carolyn Spencer, who helped support the formation of the scout here, as her son Lorilard was an active scout in United States.
Grino said the Centennial Jamboree will be held from November 9 to 13, exactly two days ahead of the commemoration as another big BSP activity will also be held in Manila. (Roel Pareño)
