MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau issued a yellow rainfall advisory for Metro Manila and six other areas in Luzon before Tuesday noon as a typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon continues to bring heavy rains.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued the advisory at 11:30 a.m. for Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, Zambales, and portions of Laguna and Rizal.
According to the government's official gazette, a yellow rainfall advisory is raised when the expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 millimeters and 15 millimeters within one hour and is likely to continue.
PAGASA warned that flooding in low-lying areas may occur in the areas under the yellow rainfall warning.
The weather bureau said light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are also affecting Pampanga and portions of Quezon, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Bulacan and may persist within three hours.
The heavy rains in Luzon are brought by the southwest monsoon or "Habagat," which is still being enhanced by Typhoon "Jose."
While Jose will not directly affect any part of the country, PAGASA said the Habagat will continue to bring rains over Ilocos Region and Central Luzon while Metro Manila, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA will have occasional rains.
"Fisherfolks and those with small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon," PAGASA said.
In its latest weather bulletin, PAGASA said Jose has weakened further while moving towards southern Japan.
At 10 a.m. today, the eye of the typhoon was located at 805 kilometers east of Calayan Island, bearing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.
Heavy to intense rainfall (10 to 25 millimeters per hour) has been estimated within the 650-kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
Expected to move north northeast at 15 kph, Jose is seen to be at 860 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes by Wednesday morning.
Jose would exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning.
