DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines – Aside from the coastal waters of Bataan, the waters off Mandaon in Masbate; Irong-Irong Bay in Western Samar, and the Honda Bay in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan were also found positive for algae that produces the red tide toxin.
In an advisory dated July 1, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) warned the public that shellfishes and alamang harvested from these areas are not safe for human consumption.
Fish, squid, shrimps and crabs are safe provided these are fresh, washed thoroughly and their internal organs removed before cooking, read the advisory signed by BFAR director Asis Perez.
Meanwhile, the coastal waters of Bolinao, Sual, Anda, Alaminos City and Wawa in Bani remain free from red tide.
