Peace monument up in Davao district

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A peace monument was unveiled yesterday in the hinterland of Paquibato district here in observance of the 116th Independence Day.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Armed Forces chief Gen. Emmanuel Bautista led the unveiling of the peace monument that bore the names of soldiers, communist rebels and civilians who have been killed in the district.

Paquibato, located 50 kilometers north of the city proper with 13 barangays and a population of 38,266, is considered a lair of the New People’s Army. 

As part of the Independence Day celebration, various government agencies extended services to the villagers in the district, mostly indigenous folk.
