MMDA supports proposed 3-day school week
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday expressed support to the three-day school week in Metro Manila being proposed by the Department of Education (DepEd).
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said the agency would support the proposal as it could help ease vehicular traffic in the metro.
Tolentino, however, cautioned that such a move should not affect the quality of education.
He added that the MMDA would be closely coordinating with the DepEd on the proposal.
Accoding to the DepEd, it is still studying the proposal as a possible measure to resolve the problem of classroom overcrowding particularly those in Quezon City and Manila public schools.
Should the proposal be implemented, classes will be split into two batches. One batch would go to classes from Monday to Wednesday, while the second batch will be attending classes from Thursday to Saturday.
The DepEd, however, stressed that even if the proposal pushes through, schools will still be required to complete the required 180 school days.
